J. Crew Clearance Store = Bliss

A few weeks ago  I heard the greatest news I have heard in a very long time.. Upon moving to North Carolina a few years ago, I was slightly disappointed in my shopping choices. That all changed upon googling J. Crew Asheville, NC. The words that appeared on the screen with a tiny red dot extremely close to my house “J. Crew Factory Clearance store”.. well.. they made my month. As you could imagine the next few steps of planning my attack and researching happened quite quickly. I decided to visit the store and crossed my fingers for good deals. What I got was better than I could possibly have imagined. A clearance store attached to a warehouse full of J. Crew goodness, with all the bells and whistles. I had expected a small bare room with a few crappy racks filled to the brim with old collections. What I got was so much more. A tiny slice of J. Crew heaven. A store roughly modeled after a true J. Crew retail store, with about half the inventory. But very fresh collections. After shopping around for an hour or so, trying on everything I picked up, I ended the trip with only 1 purchase, but a very exciting one! I left with a smile on my face, and plans to attend the August warehouse blowout sale. The associate did give me a fun bit of information before I left though. The store is replenished weekly, but she uttered the most exciting words, “we get a few new PALLETS a week”. Could you imagine? Unpacking pallets of J. Crew clearance merchandise? I think I would do a cannon ball right into the stack! Here’s the low-down!

The pricing is very simple,

Shorts $20-$30

Pants $20-$40

Shirts $10-$20

Blazers (yes, amazing blazers) $100-$120

Strategy: Go through the store and grab everything you think you like in your size, then head to the fitting rooms. This is a final sale clearance store, no returns, if it fits perfectly, get it. This is no time for “I’ll return it later if it doesn’t work”. You must swiftly make your decision, it could be gone before you can decide! With prices like this, you have to get something! They have all the accessories, ties, jewelry & bags that you could want to choose from, just go for it!

Ladies: You are much better off than the men in this store. The lady’s side of the store is much larger and you have much more to choose from, and even bigger savings. You would be crazy to visit the area without stopping!

All in all, I think I will become very familiar with this place, who wouldn’t!

My big purchase…

I made out with this $65.00 pair of Club Shorts for just $20… I can’t even take it!

Sun Child

As you all know, besides my love for fashion and design, my first love is photography. I haven’t mentioned much about my photography business on this trendy blog so I will take this chance to tell you a bit. When I was in high school a very special photography teacher, Mr. Albertson, taught me the in’s and out’s of the craft and ignited a passion inside me that I had always known existed. I owe my attention to detail and ability to see the talent I have to him. 9 years later, I have a successful photography business, and an extreme passion for fashion photography. Obviously from this blog you can tell that I love all things fashion.. but it takes more than good clothes to make a good photo. I am so excited that everyday I learn something new, and continue to grow in this talent. Visit my website,, or my facebook page to see more of my portfolio! Maybe someday I will live a charmed creative life in New york, for now though, I am enjoying shooting weddings, fashion photography, and more! I hope you enjoy these photos of my friend and muse Shannon, of Intricately Disheveled! It’s so nice to have a friend that is on the same creative level as I, and who can see the vision in my head! Enjoy!

Shorts: A guide

Having been in Florida for about a month now, I have been through the up’s and down’s where the weather is concerned. It amazes me that in most other places a season means one type of weather, continuously. Today however, I woke up to 40 degrees, and went to sleep to 80. My point is, it’s just about time to pull out the shorts, and please, don’t do it without reading this first!

Just like most other things in fashion, there are right ways, and wrong! Shorts can be a grey area for some guys! First of all, cargo shorts are being sold almost everywhere this year, just like most years. Why? For some guys, a bulky look can be good. I’m just not sure why one would need that many pockets. Personally, I never wear the things! I like my shorts to fit well, sleek and sporty. The right fabric can make a big difference too. Go for a “nice” pair of shorts, you’ll know what I mean when your shopping!I have an old pair of Old Navy shorts I like to work in the yard in and they just feel wrong, they were cheap! Length is a good place to decide what you like personally. Just below the knee would be great for a taller guy, I am relatively short, so I like to go just above my knee. You will definitely see shorter shorts on guys this year. If your into it, go for it, just make sure you can pull it off!  Color is another preferential factor! Color automatically says style this year, so go for it! Urban Outfitters has some amazing BDG shorts in an array of colors this year! Now that you have your shorts, it’s time for a shirt. This can change your look drastically.. go for a nice basic tee and its a casual day on the town, a tucked in polo, or rolled up long sleeve will class it up a bit. My favorite way to wear shorts is with a button up woven. Roll the sleeves up to your elbow and your look will be top notch! Make sure not to leave the norm behind when wearing shorts, we wear belts with pants, and we should also wear them with shorts. A nice leather belt is great but a colored canvas will trend this year! Last but not least, shoes. A pair of leather boat shoes, or lace up athletic inspired sneakers will work great. socks are a place to be careful, no one wants to look like the old guy with the white socks on, find yourself a no show sock, yes they look funny when you put them on but the purpose they serve is great. $3 a pair at Urban Outfitters and you wont kill your look with a shown sock! Be careful with flops or sandals. These are strictly beach wear. I grew up wearing flip-flops everyday and now realize, they are not everyday shoes. No support, and they don’t help your look much either. Always keep style in mind! Take a look at how these guys do it!

Good Jeans

When life gives you lemons, WEAR JEANS! I think the case is true for everyone, when I’m feeling down, or can’t find the right thing to wear.. I ALWAYS turn to my favorite pair of jeans. Though this concept is nothing new. Jeans have been a trendy staple since the beginning. Initially, jeans were simply sturdy trousers worn by workers, especially in the factories during World War II. During this period, men’s jeans had the zipper down the front, whereas women’s jeans had the zipper down the right side. By the 1960s, both men’s and women’s jeans had the zipper down the front. Historic photographs indicate that in the decades before they became a staple of fashion, jeans generally fit quite loosely, much like a pair of bib overalls without the bib. Indeed, until 1960, Levi Strauss denominated its flagship product “waist overalls” rather than “jeans”. After James Dean popularized them in the movie Rebel Without a Cause, wearing jeans by teenagers and youth or young adults became a symbol of youth rebellion during the 1950s. Because of this, they were sometimes banned in theaters, restaurants and schools. Nowadays, however, jeans are the poster child for style in many ways. Go dark and you can wear them virtually anywhere, go light on your relaxed play day, tan for work, or even colored for a sexy edge. My personal favorite are still Levi’s, though I would like to have mine tailored perfectly as to not have a dreaded case of sag ass, my Levi’s never let me down. I go 511 Skinny every time. However you wear your jeans, you will not be alone, history has repeated itself for years. The denim decade won’t be ending any time soon!

OK! So you’re not a yellow chino’s guy, no big deal. A POC will do the trick! Pop Of Color is a phrase coined by celebrity stylist and Bravo TV star Brad Goreski, for his keen sense on adding color to your already established closet. Though Brad himself is more of an all over color guy, he has found the trick to bring your wardrobe out of the dark ages! With a few simple, inexpensive purchases, you can add color to every outfit. SCARF: yea, you probably already have scarves, but bright, solid colors are on trend. Go for a color you can see enhancing your personal style. Red, green, orange, & blue are easy to add to most colors and still keep it masculine. Orange is my favorite! Add and orange scarf or sock to black, or blue and your look will be top notch every time. TIE OR BOWTIE: these are classic, yet trendy ways to add color. Inside tip, add a neon green skinny tie to your navy suit. Neon is the new black this season and you could be the first to rock it. SOCKS: The most subtle of all of the POC’s but it’s the easiest & my personal fave. Socks are inexpensive, easy to buy and so much fun. I recently searched online for colorful socks, and found pages and pages of them. Cheapest buy is of course H&M where I found some awesome colors and designs. SHOES: Yes, I was surprised too! Another developing trend is a color blocked or soled shoe. No, I don’t think these will work with every outfit, but find the right spot for them, and you have a masterpiece! ACCESSORIES: The easiest thing you can do is purchase some colorful sunglasses, pocket square, or even a belt. No excuses fellas, color should be a part of your world this year!
